Welcome from the Founders
It is essential that parents, students, teachers, and society, in general, recognize the difference between schooling and education. Schools are for all and follow a prescribed curriculum that is established by the federal, provincial, or municipal governments in every country. Such schools base their programs on “knowledge” and the acquisition of basic skills; information that can be recalled and tested in order to measure the effectiveness of programs or of instruction.
This creates generations of children who go out into the working world ill equipped to face the realities of a society that desperately needs thinkers. Such limitations thwart the innate thinking skills of every student, reduce the opportunities for risk taking, and immobilize the natural problem-solving skills inherent in every human being.
Canadian Independent Micro School (C.I.M.S.) is an independent micro school that far surpasses the programs offered in traditional schools. The curriculum is designed to give students the opportunity of developing skills which are too often minimized in other educational environments due to curriculum restrictions. These skills include advanced reading, writing, thinking, communication, problem-solving, and risk-taking. Students are consistently asked to organize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information. It is an expectation, particularly with the older students, to challenge the instructor in a respectful manner. Only through such opportunities do students recognize their full potential as learners and allow themselves far more possibilities as they approach the university selection process.
Canadian Independent Micro School expands the minds of its students and views each participant as an individual, unique in his/her learning style. C.I.M.S. gives each participant the confidence and the skills that he/she will find necessary in a university education. By doing so, your child will find post-secondary challenges less stressful and far more meaningful.
